Having a search engine optimized (SEO) website should be a cornerstone for any author’s online media strategy. I’ve already posted something very similar to this back in August 2011. So, why am I preaching to you again five months later? Last week I got an email from a reporter from Kiplinger’s Personal Finance asking if she could interview me for a piece on self-publishing running in the March 2012 edition. The email came directly from my website’s (www.bookpublisherscompared.com) contact form, meaning that this reporter found me by searching online using some self-publishing related terms.
So, in just five months I’ve received interview requests from the New York Times and Kiplinger’s. I don’t have a publicist. I didn’t spend money to get the attention of these reporters. I just continue to make sure my website is relevant and informative.
Yes, Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, and so many others are great spokes on your online wheel. Every wheel needs hub. Spend the time and money to create a website that makes you and your website Times-worthy.
